1 killed after building explosion in Aliso Viejo


HMN-1 person has been declared dead and 2 others injured after a building explosion in California.  Original reports indicated that a vehicle may have contributed to the explosion but at this time, that has not been confirmed. (ABC7)

One person was killed and at least two others were injured in a possible explosion at a structure in Aliso Viejo, authorities said.

The Orange County Fire Authority said it appeared there was some sort of explosion on the first floor of the two-story building at 5 Mareblu Tuesday shortly after 1 p.m..

One person was pronounced dead at the scene, and two others were injured, OCFA said.

Authorities initially believed a car had crashed into the side of the structure but later said that may not be the case.

The scene was declared a second-alarm fire and a hazmat situation. OCFA said a bomb squad will be sent in to assess the situation.

A nearby preschool was ordered to evacuate.

Portions of Pacific Drive were shut down in the area due to the incident, according to a tweet from the the city of Aliso Viejo.
