Amphibious HazMat – Team trains on getting in to difficult to reach places

Today members of County OEM, County Fire Marshals and HazMat trained on our Hydratrek. The Hydratrek is an amphibious vehicle that has multiple uses including water rescue and can be used for HazMat incidents along shorelines and hard to reach areas.

The Middlesex County Hazardous Materials Unit, started in 1979, is one of New Jersey’s first regional emergency services and is the primary agency for hazardous materials response within the County . The Unit was absorbed into the County government in 1981 allowing all twenty-five municipalities to have specialty response capabilities. The Unit is comprised of full-time, career employees who provide coverage twenty-four (24) hours a day, seven days a week. Unit personnel are trained to the Specialist level in Hazardous Materials and CBRNE Response as well as Firefighting, Incident Management, Emergency Medical Care, and Confined Space Rescue. The Unit is an active participant in the New Jersey County Environmental Health Act (CEHA) and the Middlesex County Urban Search & Rescue (MXC) Team.  -HMN
