Around 75 people exposed to pesticide in Fresno County

FRESNO COUNTY, California – About 75 people were exposed to a pesticide in Fresno County on Thursday, and a hazmat unit is on the scene, the Fresno Fire Department said.

The hazmat team was located near Central and Goldenrod avenues – south of Kerman.

Around 9 a.m., the Fire Department received a call saying that dozens of farmworkers were exposed to an unknown pesticide while working in an orchard.

While working in the orchard, a neighboring farm was being sprayed, and the farmworkers in the orchard were exposed.

Among the 75 people exposed, 17 of them were showing symptoms of difficulty breathing and skin irritation.

Three were transported to an area hospital.

The Fire Department was working to identify where the spray came from so the company could be contacted to find out the the pesticide was.

The farmworkers were undergoing decontamination.

No other information was immediately available.
