Chemical fire forces residents to evacuate.
A fire that consumed multiple buildings in Greeleyville forced residents within a mile radius of the site to evacuate. On October 31, Williamsburg County firefighters worked till the early morning hours on Bloody Bucket Road to secure the area and douse the flames that started that afternoon. According to Williamsburg County Fire Department Public Information Officer William Horton, other buildings and homes close by were saved by firefighters.
Estimates are over 300 gallons of chemicals that included herbicides and pesticides were destroyed in the fire. Agencies including the Department of Health and Environmental Control (DHEC) would return to the site. The mandatory evacuation was lifted the following morning. Williamsburg County Fire Chief Randy Swinton said the cause of the fire has not been determined.
