According to ShoreNewsToday:
CAPE MAY COURT HOUSE – Members of the Cape May County Regional Urban Search Team (RUST) conducted a confined space rescue demonstration for Great Lakes Dredge and Dock Company last week.
The company is currently performing beach replenishment on Avalon and Stone Harbor beaches. Because employees of the company may enter confined spaces on the barge as part of routine maintenance, the company wanted a professional rescue response organization to explain all aspects of what occurs during a rescue incident.
The barge Texas, which is conducting the dredging, is the largest barge in the United States and can at any time have between 20 to 30 employees onboard, according to a press release. Several of the employees also live on the barge for two weeks at a time.
Members of the Wildwood City and Cape May City Fire Department’s participating in the training included: Wildwood Fire Chief Daniel Speigel, Deputy Chief Ernie Troiano III, Capt. Mathew Johnson, and firefighters Ryan Troiano, Rich Harron Jr., and William Szemchek.
