Crosby, TX Chemical plant explosion; Shelter in place for nearby schools

Life Flight is responding to an explosion and fire at the KMCO plant in Crosby.

HARRIS COUNTY, Texas — Emergency crews are on the scene of an explosion and fire at a Crosby plant.

It happened at KMCO plant on Ramsey Road, according to the Crosby Volunteer Fire Department.

A shelter-in-place has been issued for all campuses in Crosby ISD and Sheldon ISD.

There are reports of possible injuries. Two Life Flight helicopters and ambulances are on the scene.

At 11:47 a.m., Harris County Sheriff Ed Gonzalez said he is on the scene and it is still active. The Harris County Fire Marshal’s Office is also on the scene and is taking the lead on the fire.

Several KHOU 11 viewers have told us they could feel the explosion as far away as Kingwood, Deer Park, and Houston.
