FLORISTON, Calif. (KOLO)– An explosion blew up a vacant home in Floriston Wednesday and damaged windows on a dozen nearby homes, said Nick Brown, a public information officer with the Truckee Fire Protection District.
The blast leveled the home and sent debris from the home into trees.
No one was in the home and there were no injuries from the explosion reported around 3:30 p.m. November 14, 2018 in a small subdivision off Interstate 80 in California between Verdi and Truckee. The home is about a 16-minute drive west of Verdi.
“We’re just on scene trying to get the road cleaned up,” Brown said Wednesday night.
Several homes have been red-tagged and the residents are not being allowed back in, Brown said. A dozen to 16 homes are without power in the Floriston area. Power could be out for 24 to 36 hours.
The explosion’s cause is still under investigation but it appears to be a gas leak, Brown said.
The vacant home was for sale.
