Explosion levels Los Angeles area home

HMN-An explosion levels a Canoga Park home and leaves a large debris field.  ABC 7 reports Firefighters isolated the gas to the home, however the cause remains unknown.

CANOGA PARK, Calif. (KABC) — An explosion at a home in Canoga Park on Wednesday significantly damaged the structure and spread debris across a residential block, prompting a response from firefighters.

One person was transported to a hospital after the 3 p.m. blast at the single-story house in the 7500 block of Sale Avenue, which did not result in an active fire, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department. Paramedics evaluated three young children at the scene for possible debris injuries.

Southern California Gas Company officials and firefighters from three fire companies were ensuring that utilities were shut down at the location as a precaution, officials said.

The explosion left the house’s backyard and surrounding areas covered with splintered wood beams, plywood, appliances and bricks. A pickup truck with a mangled hood was seen parked alongside the residence.
