The Florida Hazardous Materials Symposium will be celebrating its 8th year in January
2020. What started out as a handful of hazmat classes has grown into an annual four-
day conference and expo.
The conference will be held in beautiful Daytona Beach, Florida at The Plaza Resort and Spa on January 21- 24, 2020.
The planning team received over 82 white papers from instructors from all over the
United States for courses to be taught at the symposium. Sixty-Eight of those courses were accepted for
a total of 236 total hours of hazardous materials training to be taught in four days. We are honored to
have some of the world’s leading instructors teach at the conference this year. These instructors travel
to our conference with a heart to educate and equip first responders, first receivers, and industry
professionals in emergency response to hazardous materials incidents.
The passion and dedication that these men and women have to teach at the symposium is what allows us to stand-out from any other
event offered in the State.
Annual Hazardous Materials Team Competition
This event is sponsored by
Response Technologies each year and they continue to challenge our teams and offer a competition that
is competitive, educational, and fun. The best part? The competition is FREE to participate in!
What would a conference be without the opportunity to network with other responders from around
the world and businesses who provide us with life-saving equipment and tools for our toolbelts?
Join us on Tuesday night for our vendor showcase where you can enjoy networking with other responders and
vendors about products and services.
Join us Wednesday morning in the main ballroom for the opening ceremony. This year’s guest speaker
will be guaranteed to knock your socks off. You don’t want to miss this event and FREE breakfast.
On Wednesday night we will have our awards ceremony to honor our top Hazardous Materials Teams from
the competition. Come celebrate and lets’ see who will be this years’ top WINNERS.
Hands on Courses
On Thursday we offer hands-on training courses all day. Time to put that
knowledge to application and get dirty. We are offering more hands-on training this year than ever
before and the instructors for these courses are the top leaders in their fields. The hands-on classes are
possible through the efforts of Seminole County Fire Rescue Special Operations and the Volusia County
Fire Rescue Training Center. These two organizations dedicate the equipment, resources, and staffing
every year to put on cutting-edge courses to equip you and challenge you in the area of hazardous
If that wasn’t enough… more learning!
Need more? That’s ok we have more classes and opportunities for you to get in some great
classes and instructors before lunch thru Friday. The US Department of Transportation (DOT) Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration
(PHMSA) has identified the Florida Hazardous Materials Symposium as a pre-approved hazmat
