HAZMAT called to clean up dumped barrels in Houston area
The Harris County Precinct 1 Environmental crimes unit are on the scene of a set of barrels that were dumped illegally near John Ralston & Garrett Rd., in East Harris County.
“More than a dozen barrels dumped illegally. Working to determine what chemicals may be inside,” said a Twitter post from Pct. 1 Constable Alan Rosen.
The barrels contained chemicals that were initially unknown if they are harmful to the environment, said Rosen. According to the Twitter post, there were 17 barrels and two totes in the area.
Further updates have shown that chemicals were leaking but did not pose a threat to the public. A hazardous material unit is continuing to do testing at the scene.
More updates will be given at a later time.
