Shadyside, Ohio (WTRF) – UPDATE 10:50 a.m.

Crews have cleared the scene of the Shadyside Waste Water Treatment Plant.

Officials confirm there was a small chlorine leak, but no threat to the public.

According to Assistant Fire Chief John Shaver, one of the tanks had a bad regulator, which caused the tank to drain.

The hazmat team has turned the tank off and a new part has been ordered.

UPDATE 9:40 a.m.

Officials on scene say there is no need to evacuate the area.

UPDATE 9:15 a.m.

Hazmat teams say the leak is chlorine. They’ve turned off the tanks to find where the leak is coming from. No word yet on if an evacuation is necessary.

Right now crews are on the scene of a situation developing at the Shadyside Waste Water Treatment Plant.

According to officials, workers arrived to the plant this morning around 7:00 a.m. to an alarm going off.

This is regarding a leak with two tanks in question that were reportedly just replaced two weeks ago.

Hazmat is on the scene, along with Belmont County EMA Director Dave Ivan, the OR&W Fire Department, and the Shadyside Water Department.

As of 8:55 a.m., people in the area were on standby to evacuate if needed while Hazmat works to determine what is leaking at the facility. At this time, officials believe it could be a Chlorine leak.

They are asking everyone near the scene to stay at least 200 feet away from the area.
