Hazmat incident causes traffic jam at US border

HMN – As you prepare for the next HM call are you including your law enforcement partners? If not you should.

U.S. border officials have confirmed that a “hazmat incident” that saw traffic on the U.S. side of the Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle border slow to a crawl was due to an illegal drug leakage. “Earlier today at the Port of Champlain, a bottle containing suspected illegal narcotics leaked during seizure processing,” said David Long, a spokesman for the U.S. Customs and Border Protection Service. Long said the the area was evacuated as a precaution and that the Clinton County Emergency Services hazmat team completed the cleanup of the site.
Normal traffic operations have resumed, he said. Highway 15 South between Exit 1 and the Lacolle border was closed but has since reopened, according to Transports Quebec.
