Today we look at the Henrico County VA HazMat team. The team is made up of 60 members who respond on a cross-staffed apparatus 24/7 for a population of almost 350,000 people.
The response area includes the Richmond International Airport, Port of Richmond, 2 CSX rail yards, Interstate 95 and 64, Richmond Raceway, a regional mail distribution center and a large Facebook server building the size of seven (7) football fields!
There is on duty dedicated Haz Mat Training 8 hours a month to maintain certification. 24 hours of off duty training a year for those not assigned to the 3 core stations.

Training
The team gets initial training from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management sponsored Technician and Specialist Training. There is on duty dedicated Haz Mat Training
8 hours a month to maintain certification. 24 hours of off-duty training a year for those not assigned to the 3 core stations. Members also attend the IAFC and VA Haz Mat Conferences.
