Today we look at the Henrico County VA HazMat team. The team is made up of 60 members who respond on a cross-staffed apparatus 24/7 for a population of almost 350,000 people.
The response area includes the Richmond International Airport, Port of Richmond, 2 CSX rail yards, Interstate 95 and 64, Richmond Raceway, a regional mail distribution center and a large Facebook server building the size of seven (7) football fields!

The team gets initial training from the Virginia Department of Emergency Management sponsored Technician and Specialist Training. There is on duty dedicated Haz Mat Training 8 hours a
month to maintain certification. 24 hours of off-duty training a year for those not assigned to the 3 core stations. Members also attend the IAFC and VA Haz Mat Conferences.
