Keeping prepared in PA with Somerset County HazMat Team

The Somerset County Hazardous Materials Response Team 600 hosted the TEEX MGT-348 Medical Preparedness and Response to Bombing Incidents at the Region 13/Hazmat Building on January 21st and 22nd, 2017. The class was comprised of 44 first responders representing 22 agencies. The two day course objectives were as follows: Explain how to apply the lessons learned from actual bomb incidents to help prevent and/or respond to a possible local bombing incident. Identify and explain the threats posed by terrorists’ use of explosives against U.S. domestic targets. Identify commonly used explosives. Recognize and identify indicators of an imminent or future attack. Recognize bombing injuries and identify appropriate treatment. Perform patient triage throughout bombing incident response, and engage in bomb-related exercises involving triage. • Safely conduct appropriate preventive, preparatory, and response actions during both the pre- and post-detonation periods of a bombing incident. Take appropriate tactical and operational issues into consideration when planning for response to both pre- and post detonation bombing incidents. Demonstrate their understanding of key response issues to a major bombing incident. We would like to extend our appreciation to Servpro of Somerset & Westmont for financing and delivering the morning refreshments and lunches from the Olde Towne Café and Kitty’s Corner Cafe.
