UPDATE 9.10pm: Police have reopened Napier Street after the hazardous material incident.

Fire crews left the scene about 9pm after the situation was brought under control by police, who focused their attention on a unit between Buller Street and Weeroona Avenue.

Police are also preparing to leave the scene.

EARLIER: Police have blocked off Napier Street at Weeroona Avenue and Nolan Street in response to a hazardous material incident.

Emergency services received the call about 7.30pm this evening.

Two fire trucks and multiple police units are on scene at a house on Napier Street, north of Buller Street and near the Weeroona Avenue intersection.

Buller Street is also blocked off.

The area has been blocked off to ensure the safety of the public while police respond to the incident, an officer told the ​Bendigo Advertiser.
