HMN-A DeSoto Parish tank explosion kills one, and injures two others on Tuesday. The cause is still under investigation according to KSLA
DESOTO PARISH, LA (KSLA) – A contract worker died and two others were hurt in a well site explosion in DeSoto Parish.
It happened at 11:46 a.m. Tuesday on Walker Road about a mile west-southwest of U.S. Highway 171 south of Mansfield.
The tank exploded as a crew was cleaning up recent storm damage at the site operated by Aethon Energy, the DeSoto Sheriff’s Office reported.
“A tragic accident occurred while a contractor’s workers dismantled a tank,” says a statement a company official released late Tuesday night.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with the individuals and their families during this difficult time,” says the statement from Gordon Huddleston, an Aethon Energy co-president and partner.
One person was pronounced dead at the scene.
Another was flown to a hospital by Life Air for treatment of moderate injuries.
The third, who had minor injuries, was taken by ambulance to a Mansfield medical facility.
Their names have not yet been released.
“We do not believe any hazardous material was released during the incident,” sheriff’s office spokesman Blake Woodward said in a statement. “And no residential or commercial structures were in danger during or following the explosion due to the remote location.”
DeSoto EMS and about a dozen DeSoto Fire District 8 personnel responded to the call.
The cause of the explosion is being investigated in cooperation with government regulators, Aethon Energy’s Huddleston said.
