BALTIMORE — An independent contractor working on a water main hit a gas line Thursday afternoon, causing a fire in south Baltimore, officials told 11 News.
About a dozen homes were evacuated in the area of the unit block of East Randall Street. Some residents were not being allowed to return to their homes by 4 p.m.
The fire was reported around 2:30 p.m. Crews extinguished the fire around 3:10 p.m.
The fire torched a tree, but there was no damage to homes.
Baltimore Gas and Electric crews responded to the scene.
