Several employees at an Amazon shipping center in Eastvale were taken to a hospital as a precaution Saturday afternoon after fire officials said they were possibly exposed to a hazardous material.

At around 4:30 p.m., firefighters evacuated 150 employees from the complex at 4950 Goodman Road after six workers who reported feeling ill were transported to the hospital.

“They were exposed to an unknown substance inside the building,” said Jody Hagemann, a spokeswoman for the Cal Fire/Riverside County Fire Department.

Fire officials sent a hazardous materials team to sweep the building. But they couldn’t find any substance that would have sickened the workers.

What symptoms the workers experienced was not provided. Hagemann declined to describe the symptoms. She said the workers were taken to a hospital with “moderate to minor injuries.”

But in a statement, Amazon officials said no workers were injured.

The Amazon officials said the six workers were checked out at a hospital due to their symptoms. But none were actually hospitalized.

Cal Fire/Riverside officials said the complex reopened the same day after the hazmat sweep turned up no results.
