Recognizing the growing threat of hazardous materials incidents placed on Jordon, the government’s civil defense branch attended training courses in Egypt to learn fire investigation and how to establish specialized laboratories.

Those laboratories were established and grew to include testing equipment to identify unknown chemicals. From there, the initiative was expanded to the Hazardous Materials and Laboratory Testing Department.
It was a technical laboratory entrusted with examining fire samples received from the field for the purpose of detecting petroleum waste and proving or denying the presence of fire accelerating materials in them, in addition to participating in the investigation committees in the causes of the fire, to which laboratory officers were assigned at that time.
The team’s biggest wins came during the corona virus pandemic and industrial gas and corrosive materials accidents. The team’s biggest challenge is securing grant funding.
