Private Hazmat Leans on Experience

Chemical Hazmat EU

Working in Portugal and across the European Union, Chemical Hazmat EU draws its strengths from the experience of its team members.

The staff of 20 hazmat specialists includes both former and active firefighters, each bringing over 25 years of experience to the team. This, team leaders say, gives them extensive hands-on experience from dealing with various emergency situations. That combination of extensive experience, continuous training, and deep commitment makes its staff exceptionally capable of handling any emergency with professionalism and efficiency, they say.

The team operates three primary vehicles, each equipped with a wide array of specialized hazmat equipment. The command vehicle serves as the mobile command center and is equipped with advanced communication systems, computers and mapping software to coordinate operations efficiently. It also houses protective gear, including Level A and Level B suits, SCBA, and various detectors for chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear threats.

The response vehicle is designed for rapid deployment to hazmat incidents. It is stocked with a comprehensive range of tools and equipment, such as absorbent materials, spill containment booms, decontamination showers and neutralizing agents. Additionally, it carries specialized instruments like gas detectors, radiation meters and toxic vapor analyzers.

The support vehicle provides logistical support and additional resources during prolonged operations. It includes a vast array of spare parts, additional protective clothing, backup SCBA units, and a variety of pumps and hoses for transferring hazardous materials. It also features portable lighting and power generators.

The team’s biggest win was managing the largest hazmat project in Latin America, the Venezuela Pesticide Project. This project involved the safe handling, transportation and disposal of hazardous pesticides across Venezuela. Their expertise and coordinated efforts ensured the project was completed successfully, mitigating significant environmental and public health risks.

The biggest challenge was expanding the operations to Europe. This involved navigating different regulatory environments, adapting to new safety standards, and establishing a strong presence in a highly competitive market. Despite these hurdles, the team integrated its expertise and operations to offer its services across multiple countries in Europe.
