HazSim and Hazmat Nation to host its 9th annual networking event at IAFC’s hazmat conference to raise money for hazmat scholarships and drive thought-provoking ideas
For the ninth year, Hazmat Nation and HazSim will bring together hundreds of hazmat professionals for a networking and fundraising event in conjunction with the International Association of Fire Chiefs’ hazmat conference June 18 – 21 in Baltimore.
The networking event is free to hazmat conference attendees and will be held June 18 at Luckie’s Tavern at Baltimore’s Power Plant Live. While the event is free, attendees need to preregister here.
“We’re so excited to bring this important fundraising and networking event back, which we could not have done without the generous support of our major corporate partners DuPont and First Line Technology,” said Phil Ambrose, inventor and CEO of HazSim.
This will mark the first year for the event’s Open Mic Night. Those who wish to grab the microphone can have up to nine minutes to discuss a relevant hazmat topic.
“We want to move the hazmat conversation forward,” Ambrose says. “Not everybody gets to present at conferences or to present on the more nuanced topics. The open mic lets anybody spell out their big idea or big problem in front of more than 300 peers and experts. We know the real magic will happen when they come down off the stage and engage in conversations. The real magic will happen when others start talking about that topic.”
Hazmat Nation and HazSim will once again use the event as a fundraiser. This year, the event will raise money to help fund the US HEAT Scholarships. Each year, the US Hazardous Materials Education And Training Scholarships pays for two career or volunteer firefighters to attend IAFC’s Hazardous Materials Response Team Conference. US HEAT will be selling special challenge coins at the event as part of the fundraiser.
“We’re a firefighter owned and operated company,” Ambrose said. “We get just how important it is for hazmat team members to stay informed and well trained. We also get that not every department can afford to send members to important conferences like this one. Like the Open Mic Night, this is another way to keep the conversation, the learning and the training moving forward. We’re committed to making firefighters safer through better training and better learning, and we are thrilled to partner with US HEAT on this important scholarship.”
