At least 32 people were arrested over the last several months and charged in connection with a fentanyl and heroin distribution ring that brought in supplies from as far away as Miami, according to the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office.

The agency posted to Facebook that the sweeping investigation also netted several people suspected of being involved in gang-related shootings in Brevard, although it was not immediately known if any charges were filed in those cases.

“Tonight I am very pleased to announce that the Brevard County Sheriff’s Office has culminated a lengthy criminal investigation that targeted a drug distribution and related violence organization operating in Brevard County,” Sheriff Wayne Ivey said in a late Monday post shared to Facebook.

The agency recovered eight firearms along with $55,000 in cash along with heroin, fentanyl, and cocaine.

It was not immediately clear if other law enforcement agencies were involved. The Sheriff’s Office also reported that it is still searching for 12 suspects in the case.

Some of the people were booked on racketeering-related and conspiracy charges.

The Sheriff’s Office began tracking the activities of dealers in the area earlier in the year, identifying dealers and garnering authorization from a judge to monitor phone calls and texts, court records show.

The court records detail the day-to-day activities of suspected dealers talking about ‘food,’ ‘candy’ and ‘hard,’ all terms used to describe drugs such as heroin.

Agents then tracked the phone numbers back to the suspected clients who would place orders by text.
