SAN ANTONIO – The driver of a tanker truck was killed in a fiery crash along I-37 late Thursday night.

According to police, the driver was hauling a tanker filled with syrup or molasses when they lost control, hit the guardrail, rolled off the highway main lanes and onto the access road of I-37 northbound at Loop 1604 on the Southeast Side.

The tanker burst into flames, trapping and killing the driver. The driver has not yet been identified.

San Antonio police at the scene said the tanker also clipped a minivan as it rolled off the highway, but that driver was not seriously hurt.
