GUERNSEY COUNTY, Ohio (WSYX) — Three men were arrested and more than $18,000 worth of fentanyl was seized following a narcotics investigation in Guernsey County.
The Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office said a traffic stop by deputies and K9 Hoke sparked investigators with the Central Ohio Drug Enforcement Taskforce to assist in the investigation.
As part of the investigation, multiple search warrants were conducted, including at an apartment in Cambridge.
In total, investigators found 93 grams of suspected fentanyl, $630 cash, a loaded firearm, and multiple cell phones.
The sheriff’s office said the suspected fentanyl is what is known as “gray death,” which is a unique compound of fentanyl that was first believed to be discovered in the U.S. in 2017. It is reported that the compound is 10,000 times more powerful than morphine and is responsible for the deaths of hundreds, if not thousands, of people.
Guernsey County Sheriff’s Office Detective Brian Carpenter said the fentanyl seized could “kill everyone in Guernsey County, and then some.”
Three men were taken into custody and are being held in the Guernsey County Jail.
