CLARK, NJ — Clark emergency officials and Union County Hazmat went to the Chipotle in Clark Commons for a reported harmful smell.
Clark Firefighters arrived with police and EMS to the Chipotle at 1255 Raritan Rd. at around 10:40 a.m. where several people said they were overcome by a smell, Clark Fire Captain Ryan Might said.
Firefighters went inside with their breathing apparatus on and found a produce cleaning fluid that spilled. A large amount spilled can be harmful to the nose and throat, Might said.
A couple employees said their nose and throat were burning but refused medical attention.
Union County Hazmat was called to ventilate the building. When firefighters went back inside they found a gas leak had also occurred and called Elizabethtown Gas.
It was found that a flex coil on one of the stoves was bent and was leaking out natural gas, Might said.
Once it was cleared, employees were allowed back inside. The Clark Health Inspector also declared that Chipotle could begin serving food again.
