Long-time author and respected hazmat expert Greg Noll is battling oral cancer. And members of the hazmat community are pulling together to boost his spirits as he enters treatment.
According to Mike Hildebrand, who along with Noll co-authored “Hazardous Materials: Managing the Incident 5th Edition”, said his friend’s treatment will begin in two weeks and is asking the hazmat community to send notes, challenge coins, patches, t-shirts or anything to help Noll navigate these trying times.

Noll has stage 3 oral cancer, and Hildebrand says the treatments “will consist of seven weeks or 35 individual treatments of radiation in combination with chemo two days a week. Greg has a semi-permanent feeding tube in his stomach that will be in for the duration of treatment to bypass the pain of swallowing and he has adapted to that pretty well.
“Greg and Deb really appreciate the prayers, well-wishes and the many cards, text, voice mails, etc. Keep them coming. He can read all of the social media posts and comments. Obviously, the family is swamped with medical appointments and daily care, so it’s impossible to respond to everyone, but your love and concern are heartily felt and appreciated.”
Hazmat Nation CEO Phil Ambrose calls Noll the Godfather of Hazmat. “He’s immensely intelligent, driven and committed to hazmat safety,” Ambrose says. “He’s both as humble as they come and as tough of a fighter as they come. He will fight through this. And everyone he’s touched will be right there by his side.”Well wishes may be sent to Noll at: Greg Noll, 1020 Stonemanor Dr., Lancaster, PA. 17603.
