Police & Fire: Tanker truck filled with treated waste tips over on Interstate 94 ramp

TANKER CRASH: Crews worked for several hours to unload 8,500 gallons of treated waste from a damaged tanker truck which rolled onto its side about 2:26 p.m. Monday. The tanker, owned by Biotech Agronomics, Inc. of Beulah was hauling the waste, treated for agricultural use, from the Battle Creek Waste Water Plant when it the truck turned onto its side while the driver was attempting a left turn from Columbia Avenue to the entrance ramp to eastbound Interstate 94. The driver was able to escape through a shattered windshield and was not injured, according to the Battle Creek Fire Department. Workers unloaded the material into another tanker and then wrecker crews removed the damaged truck. Traffic was disrupted at the entrance to the highway. The Michigan State Police are investigating the crash.

GUNS SEIZED: A 29-year-old man was arrested after his car was stopped by Battle Creek police on Lathrop Avenue near Douglas Street at 3:48 a.m. Monday. Police said they found two guns in the car and officers are seeking charges of illegally carrying a concealed weapon and being a felon in possession of a firearm.

DOMESTIC ASSAULT: Battle Creek police have reported the following cases:

• A warrant is being sought for a man, 29, after his father, 61, said he was assaulted in the 300 block of Capital Avenue Northeast at 2:49 p.m. Friday.

• A woman, 21, was arrested after her sister, 15, said she was assaulted in the 5700 block of Beckley Road at 9:03 p.m. Friday.

• A man, 29, was arrested after his child’s mother, 29, said she was assaulted in the 200 block of Oak Lawn Drive in Bedford Township at 4:19 p.m. Saturday.

• A warrant is being sought for a man, 20, after his former girlfriend, 23, said she was assaulted in the 100 block of Freedom Lane at 12:49 p.m. Sunday.

DRUGS: Battle Creek police arrested a man, 37, on a charge of possession of methamphetamine after his car was stopped in the first block of West Minges Road at 6:48 p.m. Sunday.

BREAK-INS: • West County Line Road, 20000 block, Bedford Township: garage, nothing taken, warrant sought for one person.
