Today we look at the Ame Internacional Unidad de operaciones Especiales of Queretaro, Mexico.  The volunteer team was formed 22 years ago and supports various fire departments in the area.  The team is made up of 18 members who are all called in from other duties to form the hazmat response.  The 100% volunteer team members are trained to Hazmat technician level.

Staffing, Training and Equipment

The volunteer team is trained to the hazmat technician level.

‘The staff is trained every 15 days and the skills are re-certified every 6 months in the skills.  Every year there is an accreditation of the new technicians and a permanent program of first respondent in hazardous materials in universities’.  The team also trains with different fire departments and volunteer emergency medical agencies.  ‘We are a team that is limited in resources but we try to train in different scenarios that are presented in non-ordinary conditions’.

The team has a 1982 Pierce Hazmat Unit called the Spartan One. There is also a decon unit and advanced medical post unit.
