A large section of Bromley town centre was cordoned off by police after a suspicious package reportedly containing a white poweder was found.

The police were called to a premises on London Road, Bromley, at 12:37pm which was evacuated.

Road closures were also put in place whilst officers, along with the London Ambulance Service (LAS) and London Fire Brigade, attended to the incident.

Two people were also reportedly feeling unwell at the scene.

Police have confirmed the package contained a substance which was assessed as non-toxic and non-hazardous, and the incident is not terror related.

MyLondon understands the “suspicious package” was found in the office of a law firm located on London Road.

A source, who asked not to be identified, said: “We were told by the emergency services is that an ‘unidentifiable white powdered substance’ was found in our office…..it was contained within a package from a department at a high security prison.”

A spokesperson from The Met Police said: “At approximately 12:37hrs on Thursday, 16 July, police were called to an address in London Road, Bromley, to reports of a suspicious package.

“Officers attended, along with London Fire Brigade and London Ambulance Service. Police received reports of two people feeling unwell at the scene.

“The package contained a substance which was assessed as non-toxic and non-hazardous.

“The premises has now re-opened and the crime scene is closed.

“Enquiries continue. This incident is not being treated as terror-related.”
