BOKEELIA, Fla. – Lee County EMS and a Hazmat team responded to a woman’s home in Bokeelia on Tuesday night after she said she received a package from China with a bracelet in it that she thought made her sick.

On the bracelet was a white powder, and after holding it, the woman claimed she felt sick and called 911.

Crews examined the woman and said she was okay. A hazmat team tested the box and bracelet for hazardous materials and explosives, but everything came back negative.

The return address was one from Beijing, China. Fort Myers Fire crews googled the address and it was described as a place that was sending “little gifts” all over the world.

The Lee County Sheriff’s Office is investigating these suspicious packages. If you get a similar package in the mail, don’t open it and call postal inspectors right away.
