RAYNHAM  — Chief Bryan LaCivita reports that the Raynham Fire Department responded to a Tier 1 HazMat incident earlier today.

At approximately 1 p.m., the Raynham Fire Department responded to a report of a mercury spill at Raynham Woods Medical Center, a medical office building located at 675 Paramount Drive. An older blood pressure machine was knocked over and broke, triggering the response.

The building was evacuated and all occupants were sent home. No injuries were reported.

Following standard protocols, a Tier 1 HazMat response was triggered, and the State Hazardous Materials Team was called to assess and evaluate the spill. Additional resources were called in to identify the full extent of the mercury in the building. The Raynham Police Department also responded to the scene.

All units had cleared the scene by 5:15 p.m. and the building was turned back over to the property owners. The property owners closed the building and a private HazMat company has been brought in to clean and evaluate the building before it can be reopened.

The incident was isolated and at no time was the general public at risk
