MOSINEE, Wis. (WSAW) – An incident summary report to the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources shows a contained leak at Ahlstrom-Munksjo Mosinee Mill resulted in the loss of 90 gallons of sulfuric acid.

The leak was reported by the mill at 7 a.m. Monday.

The memo states an equipment failure caused an internal release. Most of the sulfuric acid went into a secondary containment area and a small amount went on to the concrete. The first tank failed and causing it to go into the secondary tank.

The report states there was no environmental impact as it was contained in the build and did not enter a drain.

The Wausau-based hazmat team was paged to the paper mill. No one was injured. The hazmat team used soda ash to clean up the spill.
