UPDATE 9:27 a.m.: Roanoke County first responders and law enforcement officers provided additional information about the tanker truck rollover that has shut down Jae Valley Road Friday morning.

According to the Roanoke County Police Department, officers were dispatched shortly after 6:15 a.m. on Friday, Jan. 8, for a single-vehicle crash involving a tanker truck on its side and in a curve in the area of Jae Valley Road and Aerospace Road.

Even though there were no injuries and the tanker was not ruptured, the gas tank on the tractor was ruptured. However, the Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department quickly responded to stop the leak before there was any contamination.

“The tanker was carrying Trimethylolpropane which is a hot material used in making lubricants and resins. It has not leaked from the tanker and is considered low risk,” Roanoke County Fire and Rescue wrote on Facebook. “It must however be off loaded from the tanker so as to safely right the trailer. A small amount of diesel and oil spilled from the engine of the truck but that was contained.”

According to Roanoke County officials, a specialized tanker is on the way from North Carolina to transfer the liquid before the wrecker service can get to work recovering the overturned tanker.

The Virginia Department of Emergency Management (VDEM) is reportedly on scene to contain any possible leaks from the tanker at this time.

VDOT has blocked the roadway from Sterling Road and Coopers Cove Road, but since it is unknown when the road will be reopened, motorists are asked to avoid the area.

ROANOKE COUNTY, Va. (WFXR) — Roanoke County first responders are at the scene of a rollover involving a tanker truck along Jae Valley Road Friday morning.

According to Roanoke County Fire and Rescue Department, Jae Valley Road — also known as Route 116 — is shut down between Cooper’s Cove Road and Sterling at this time.

In addition, the Roanoke County E-911 Center says Aerospace Road is also closed at this time, with the road closure expected to last for a few hours.
